Nestle drops Adriá
Many in the culinary world shuddered as master chef Ferrán Adriá took up with multinational Nestle (as well as other Spanish supermarket brands ) to promote their wares. Now it seems that Nestle is through with Adriá, though it’s unclear why. Spain’s El País reports that Nestle attributes the break to Adriá’s “workload”, but:
“The company denies that the break had anything to do with the commercial failure of the brand on which he collaborared, Cailler, the oldest and most stellar chocolate company on the Swiss market, for which Nestle was creating a new image.”
When I originally heard about all of Ferrán’s ventures, being in the marketing biz, my first thought was that he was “diluting his brand”. Ultimately, I think these gigs don’t do much either way, and if the measure is El Bulli’s success, he can’t be too bad off.
